Maker Labs

Visit one of our five Maker Labs to get started with your next invention. Maker Labs are open during regular library hours, and staff are available on-site to help you learn the equipment, software, and tools that you need to make, create, and design.

Maker Equipment:

• 3D printers

  • 3D printers build up thin layers of plastic to create tangible objects based on your digital models.

  • Create prototypes, replacement parts, jewelry and accessories, games pieces, toys, and more!

• Embroidery machine

  • Stitch embellishments onto a variety of fabrics using designs from digital files with the Bernina 880+.

  • Use the built-in design catalog or design your own and embroider multi-colored designs or monograms onto a variety of materials such as handbags, ball caps, t-shirts, and quilts.

• Laser cutter

  • Cut out shapes, burn, or etch a design into an object's surface with the Epilog 60W CO2 Laser.

  • Create an etched glass vase, acrylic night light, personalized picture frame, holiday ornaments, and more!

• Vinyl cutter

  • Sketch and cut large (up to 24 inches wide) designs onto onto vinyl, cardstock, crepe, paper, foam, fabric, chipboard, or leather.

  • Create and cut out custom items such as colored sketches, stickers, window decals, temporary tattoos, cards, 3D paper crafts, stencils, and more with this Silhouette Cameo 4.

• Sewing machine

  • When your project is too large or complex to sew by hand, use our sewing machine! The Janome HD-5000 handles fabrics and jobs most home machines can't accommodate.

  • Based on stitch selected (18 types), the machine guides users through stitch width, length and tension settings, making the complex simple.

• Recording studio/sound lab (Norman Public Library Central only)

  • Produce your own music or spoken word audio recording with our professional equipment. Create a podcast, songs, interview, record bedtime stories, and more!

• Green screen recording studio (Norman Public Library Central only)

Mobile Maker Lab

Let us bring the Making to you! Our Mobile Maker Lab is a full-service STEAM experience on wheels that makes the rounds to libraries, community events, and spaces across central Oklahoma.

This amazing workshop on wheels features the latest Maker technology and connects you to the library's digital and print resources.

This state-of-the-art mobile technology center is complete with broadband internet access, connecting to the internet from virtually any location. The vehicle generates its own power, so all the onboard technologies and equipment operate in even the most remote locations.

A drop-down stage with stairs and a wheelchair lift offer access to the equipment housed inside as well as enabling transport of equipment to inside locations. A fully-automated retractable awning provides shade during the day and a complete tripod lighting system provides illumination when the sun goes down. The PLS Mobile Maker Lab is ready for action, day or night.
