Combine Legos, storytelling at SOKC program

The Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library turns story time around and puts the stories in the hands and heads of teens at its upcoming Lego Story Starter programs, set for 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 4 and 18, at the library, 2201 SW 134th St.

Participants will combine Legos with the StoryStarter software to create their own original Lego-themed stories, while also learning a new computing skill.

SOKC invites NaNoWriMo participants to come together on Sundays

It’s time again for NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, an annual initiative seeking to inspire would-be novel writers to spend November at work to try to complete their masterpiece in a month.

And the Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library is giving a hand to writers. The library will have space available for NaNoWriMo participants on Sundays throughout November from 1 to 5:30 p.m. each day.

SOKC presenting life-sized Clue game

The Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library brings the classic board game Clue to life at an afterschool edition of its Tween Scene group, at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, in Rooms A and B of the library.

Children in third through sixth grade are invited to take part in a life-sized version of the board game. They’ll need to come by the Children’s Services desk sometime before the program to sign up and be assigned a character to play.

SOKC writing workshop focuses on college admission, scholarship essays

High school students getting ready for college can get practical advice with the Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library writing workshop “College Admission and Scholarship Essays,” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, in Rooms A and B of the library, 2201 SW 134th St.

Representatives from the University of Oklahoma Writing Center, will lead the workshop and give insight to participants into how scholarship and admissions committees read essays and how applicants can craft essays to effectively gain the attention of these readers.

Get moving with weekly SOKC classes

The Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library pairs reading and fitness with several weekly classes offered at the library, 2201 SW 134th St.

The library hosts a Pilates class at 6 p.m. Mondays, followed by an hour of Zumba at 7 p.m. And it’s also hosting a class on Beginning Yoga at 10 a.m. on Sept. 3. All classes are offered free of charge
